Happy Hour and Trunk Show with Arbor Twist!

Celebrate summer with Arbor Twist! Ann Arbor hand-dyer Rachel Leggett’s pretty yarns have been a hit in the shop since we brought them in to brighten up the gray Michigan winter. Now we are welcoming sunshine’s return by celebrating these colorful, lightweight beauties, any of which would be happy to keep you company on all your summer adventures.

Please join us to welcome Rachel to Spun for a special happy hour event on Friday, June 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. We will enjoy refreshments, camaraderie, a few door prizes, and a lot of pretty yarn. If you can’t make Friday’s party, remember that we will have extra Arbor Twist on display in the shop through Saturday, so make plans to stop by later in the weekend!

Nothing says Michigan summertime like polka! (Just play along with us here.) We’re celebrating the season with Churchmouse’s pretty new “Polka Dot Scarf,” a wearable, simple-to-knit stunner that you can work up in one of two sizes and using a ridiculous variety of lightweight yarns. Anne will be working on hers (made with Traverse City-based Why Knot Fiber’s “Swoon”) as she hosts our regular Monday drop-in at the shop from 11am-1pm.

Come in to Spun any time before Labor Day to pick up your yarn and a copy of the pattern. When you’re finished, post a picture to Facebook or Instagram (tagging @spunannarbor), send an email to carol@spunannarbor.com, or bring your polka dots in for show-and-tell at the shop. Everyone who joins the KAL will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 Spun gift card. Everyone who finishes by Labor Day will be entered into a second drawing for a skein of Shibui's Silk Cloud, Rowan’s Kidsilk Haze, or Mrs. Crosby’s Reticule.

Dangling Conversation

by Mindy Ross (knit by Carol)

This cute crescent will add dimension to any outfit. Knit here in luxurious Freia Ombré Alpaca/Silk Lace, it’s an ideal accessory for summer or winter. As Carol will attest, it's a quick and simple knit, and a great way to get to know the spectacular yarn and colorways developed by Freia's Tina Whitmore.

Sunshine Coast

by Heidi Kirrmaier (knit by Carol)

This seemingly simple pullover features a few little design details that make it special. The A-line body shape is flattering for all shapes and sizes. Plus, it's knit seamlessly from the top down and so is quite easy to execute. Carol knit this in one of her new favorite summer weights, Rowan's Creative Linen.

Save the Date!

Meet the Shepherd: A Weekend with Francis Chester

Fri. & Sat., July 7-8

Francis Chester, founder of Virginia's Cestari Sheep and Wool Co., will be in the shop for two special events this July! Spun will host a Friday-evening happy hour event to welcome Mr. Chester to Ann Arbor on July 7, and on Saturday, he will give a presentation on how he and his family built one of great fiber companies in the U.S. Details are forthcoming, but we are excited, as you might have guessed. Both events are free, no reservations required!
